Updating Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 on branded laptop

HI,

My laptop came with pre-installed windows 8 from HP manufacturer, I heard that if we do update to windows 8.1 then hardware drivers and software issues might occur.

I want to know that may I update my laptop without being afraid to lost anything or I have to stick with my current windows 8 that came along with my laptop.

What laptop have you got so we can give further guidance around drivers.

Just go to the HP website, look up your laptop, search for drivers, and see if there are specific 8.1 drivers.

Even if there aren't, 99% chance that 8 drivers work wonderfully well with 8.1. I recommend updating despite whether there are drivers available or not.

Many thanks to all of you, I will go to the HP website and will look for my laptop model and then will decide for the update.

Remove Norton before attempting an update. It can cause the disk to not be locked during the install process.

Norton works fine with the Windows 8.1 update.
