I would put it on the D partition and dual boot so you have choice of W8 and whatever you have now.

That's what I am going to do tomorrow (have it all ready to go as an burned ISO). I did that with the developer preview months ago.

I do have a safety net in the form of Acronis disk images and so I can revert back 100% to exactly how it all was (that's all partitions). That's the one program I couldn't do without.

I would not Clean Install it over Windows 7 until you are used to it and ready to keep it for good. I would also recommend waiting until the final release before you being to use it as your main.

Dual booting however is a great idea. Rather than using the Data ( D: ) partition though, I would split that partition in half and then install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on the new partition. That way you still have a place to keep your files. If you want to install WCP on a new partition do the following:

Shrink the D: partition by 191GB (195584MB).
Partition or Volume - Shrink - Windows 7 Forums

Then create a new partition using all of the available space.
Partition or Volume - Create New - Windows 7 Forums

Finally, download and install the Consumer Preview.
