Hello!
I wish to install and dual boot windows 8 x32 and x64 bit, side by side on the same hardisk.
Now, installing once windows 8, it will create a "hidden" system reserved partition with files needed for recovery, one important file I understand that it is an image named which contains a "mini-small windows" with a recovery enviroment in it named Winre.wim
- Installing only x32 bit it gives me in the boot/system reserved partition an Winre.wim with the size of 197 Mb
- Installing only x64 bit it gives me in the boot/system reserved partition an Winre.wim with the size of 238 Mb
But as I wish to dual boot betweem x32 version and 64 version, and I wish to keep only one boot partition (system reserved).
Install Scenario1 (tested)
I have noticed that installing the 64 version first I get in the first boot/sys reserverd partition the 238 image, then the second installation side by side was the x32 version of windows 8.
I have noticed that in the system reserved (boot partition) the image remained the one of 238 Mb which was created by the x64 bit installation.
Install Scenario2 (not tested, assuming)
I assume that If I will install first the 32 bit version in boot/system reserved I will have the 197 Mb winre.wim then installing the 64 bit version in the boot/system reserved I will have the 238 image created by the x64 version.
Conclusion, If I will install x32 and x64 bit, or installing the x64 bit and installing x32 bit I will always get the 238 mb version of WinRe.wim, created by the 64 installation.
- My question is, if something "bad" happens, and I will need to use the repair/recovery enviroment, in the x32 bit version of windows can I saftley use the .wim which is 238 mb created by the x64 bit installation, is it compatibile for the x32?
