    I will try that.

There was McAfee that came with it which i quickly uninstalled.

It required a reboot though and the blue screen did not appear until I restarted for the windows update.

Ok, general advice - when doing Windows Updates, do not have anything else going on like a major change of removing antivirus. Let Windows Update complete, reboot, then handle any changes like that. Never all at once together.

Now onto attempt at fixing your current install. Not a great chance, but possible:

Delete all the contents inside \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download so that folder becomes empty.

Then go to \Windows\System32\drivers and delete all files that start with the letters "mf".

Then try to boot to Windows HDD. (Remove USB key before doing so.)

Same black screen happens after the Lenovo brand displays. Nothing has changed.

Ya, there's really no way without crash dumps that I'm able to stop the bsods without random guesses across the internet.
If there were crash dumps, you'd be up and running Windows by now.

What I think the best thing to do from here is to put Windows 8 or 8.1, whichever you prefer, onto the USB key and boot to it, to install. The tool and info to do that is here:

    Microsoft Store

I can't really say for sure how to get the 8 or 8.1 Windows .iso, but it definitely can be found. (Check hashtags against official release to ensure malware-free, if doing this.)

I noticed the member on here TheOG seems to be extremely knowledgeable about official methods, so perhaps he can chime in sooner or later about how to get the .iso you need, instead. Or add or amend any information, too. (Or anyone else?)

If you have any questions about setting it up once Windows is installed properly, we can help with that. And remember, Windows Updates to be done only when nothing else major is going on like other drivers installed or removed which require a reboot. One thing at a time.

If I installed windows 8 from the microsoft store would my key remain or would I have to do other things to get it activated?

All i really need I think is just to get to that repair menu but I'm not sure if its even possible at this point.

I think it all depends on what kind of bios you have, and manufacturer, etc...

Some of today's bios versions have the key built right into it, which means no user intervention to activate is even necessary.

Official activation and related items are not really my strong point, but for sure, members here know very well about it. I'm sure someone will answer better for you soon.

I just noticed in your specs you list Avast as your antivirus. If you actually had that installed, you can try deleting all files that start with "asw" in \Windows\System32\drivers as a last ditch effort, then trying to boot to Windows.

You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.
You can Order Lenovo Recovery Disks from here:

The problem is that I don't have a CD/DVD drive on my computer, I only have usb ports.

I think I'm just going to downgrade to windows 7. Windows 8 has caused too many problems time and time again. I will check all my drivers at here for the Y510p. Are there any major things I need to know before this?

I do have one other question. If I install windows 7 from usb onto my previously windows 8 laptop, will I still be able to go back to my secret partition and later reinstall windows 8, or will choice be gone forever?
