yes I have tried running recovery through sony recovery disk set which i have created after windows 8.1 update.
downloaded your recovery environment cd and created a bootable gpt usb pen drive using rufus.
but cant boot into it. it says "No operating system found". cant disable secure boot also.
its eating lot of my time but I want to preserve setting and apps which sony has supplied.

no need for rufus - just copy the files from within my iso to a usb stick

did you use control panel > recovery > create a recovery drive ???

KYHI man thanks a ton for your recovery environment DVD.
    All done -

used WinNTSetup for my Sony Vaio Recovery Partition Image.
formatted C Drive and restored my original image from recovery drive.

    Hello,
I have a related problem, I've read almost every single page in this thread and I've spent the last 15 hours trying to find a solution
I have an ASUS N550JK with win8.1 preloaded, I've lost all my partitions due to a failure linux install.
After many hours trying to recover my data, the only thing I have left is using the Recovery to get my system like it used to be.
I have a copy of the "Restore" partition's data
    *RecoveryBoot with the following files:
    -AsDiskLayout.dat (571kb)
    -AsPartition.dat (1kb)
    -BOOT.WIM (318mb)
    and
    *RecoveryImage with:
    -install.wim (size 10.5GB)

I restored the "install.wim" using a tool in live win7 cd but (winNT or something), the image was restored successfully but I still couldn't backup and do a clean recovery using Asus Backtracker, nor could I access the recovery pressing F9
And when I wanted to use the reset function, it said the recovery media wasn't found.
When I looked into the partition table using diskpart it showed me 3 Primary partitions in my hard drive,
    a 350MB
    a 900GB
    and 20GB
I used the set id=27 on the last partition and the label was changed from Primary to Recovery, but still I couldn't recover yet.
My question is, how can I restore my system? What are the AsDiskLayout.dat & AsPartition.dat & Boot.wim files used for? Can I recover the old partition table with them or something?(They must be stored on the Restore partition for a good reason)?
How can I enable recovering by F9 again, basically, how to activate all factory defaults.

Could someone please guide me step-by-step on what to do and how to get my laptop like it was before stupid linux installer bug ruined my life just two weeks before presenting my thesis

Thank you very much in advance!

    Regards,
    Abido

p.s. as I surfed through the threads, the latest version of SIW2's tool I found was REv21.zip, all other links were broken, if I need newer one please let me know
