Had to join the forum just to say a big hearty thank you to genet for these instructions! I don't know what I'd have done without them, they've certainly saved me hours of time, if not days and/or the purchase of a new license.

Little tip for anyone in my predicament: HDD screwed, no recovery disk, no physical backup BUT settings backed up to OneDrive. Windows installer on a new blank hard drive did restore settings and apps, which eased the pain a lot. The rest of the pain - desktop apps, music, media, documents: all either lost or painstaking work to restore - well I guess I deserved it.

Yes, you can clean install Enterprise if you want, you can't use your 8 Core key to activate it though. You'll need an enterprise key for that.

Windows 8.1 (core pro) install media will ignore it also, and prompt you for a key. 8.0 Enterprise will also ignore the OEM key.

genet ty very very much I just joined to say that

I was a victim of having an early version 8 OEM which crashed and no recovery utilities worked.. but getting it to the point of the re-install (after learning to save the data first) was all down to having your post open for the last few days.. then when i eventually got to step 3-4 it went like clockwork, I recovered by OEM key no problem and the iso activated as you said

Hi, I have a quick question genet.

I have a lenovo u430 with windows 8.1 in it (no Pro, no Ultimate... under My Computer properties it only says "Windows 8.1")
It has several partitions... Windows partition, recovery partition and 2 other partitions (hidden or with no name...) I'll upload a picture once I get home. My question is, if I want to install windows 8.1 from scratch can I wipe every partition? is there any problem?
    Thank you

    edit:
I really want to install windows from scratch and delete every single partition. I want my computer to be MY way... im just not sure that if I delete any of the hidden partitions will brick the laptop.
I've formatted plenty of computer, but this is the first one that has hidden partitions in it...

    edit2:
and in case I can go through with this and install windows 8.1 OEM should I look for ?this 4652DC6EBFEBE02C6A63E167C36E3FAEDFB93999
    ?
