No way in installing Windows 8

Before I start, yes, I bought Windows 8.1 from the original site.

I put the CD in and when I choose it to start off from that disk it's just a purple/blue-ish screen. Okay so I put the other disk in there because it came with and that one worked and it aske for a key... I enter it and it says that it's not valid. I've contacted Microsoft via mail and they still haven't responded to me.

Tell me I didnt waste about 300 on nothing...
Here are my specs.

You need to change the boot order first in the BIOS to boot from DVD, load DVD and then restart PC. It then should start installing 8.1.

I think your going to have to get into your BIOS and turn off Secure boot and enable CSM, secure boot may be protecting your current OS. You say you have 2 disks 1 would be for 64 and the other would be for 32 ensure you are using the correct one for your system. A clean install would be preferable see the sticky's at the top of the Install forum. and the tutorials forum.

JFWIW......

Some PC's that ran Windows 7/64, just fine, and even ran Windows 8/64, will not run Windows 8.1/64.
I have one of those.....and I had to install Windows 8.1/32, even though the motherboard and CPU are 64 bit capable.

It's become more and more apparent to this old tech, that Win-8.1 is not just 8.0 with a few enhancements.
It's really a new OS, with different hardware requirements, (it's very demanding) and needs to be treated as such.

I'm curious, if those DVD's came with an install Lic. Key? Does the same key work for both the 32 bit and the 64 bit version?

Happy New Year Everyone!

YES the key will work for both x32 & x64, it is only Win XP keys that will not.

That is SO funny!
But I suppose that some might try to use an XP key for installing Windows 8.1.
I would not.

Ah I think what he meant was in Windows XP there were separate keys for 32 bit and 64 bit. If you had the 64 bit version of XP you had to have a 64 bit product code to match it. In Windows 7 and 8.X your Product code is good for 32 bit or 64 bit, its your choice. I do believe if you buy a Retail copy you get both DVD's in the box, its your choice which one you use. You can switch from one to the other too and use that same product key.

@ the OP, Bought from what original site? Are you sure you didn't miss type the product code when you entered it. I've seen a long pause when booting from the install media, it appears that nothing is happening but the install will eventually continue. I've seen this when booting from my bootable USB install thumb drives.

That's been a problem with Windows installers, as far back as......(I don't remember)

Your PC, running the installer, gets to a spot where there is no drive activity and nothing on the screen and it seems like it's gone to sleep. That can last for, from seconds to minutes and it's truly very disconcerting. (frustrating)

You would think that the program writers could have the good sense to put a little message in there, something like "Relax! I'm thinking!" or some such.

I've done that myself, when I've written batch files that may take some time to run, like when copying large amounts of data.

In the Army, we used to call that "Hurry up and WAIT!".

Cheers Mates!

PS: I'm Old School. If something could go wrong with a new OS install, I've done it.
So what I do now, is only install a new OS to a Blank or dedicated hard drive, being the ONLY one seen by the motherboard.
We call that a "Clean Install". Upgrades are the Worlds Worse.
I could have multiple HD's in my system, but they are all unplugged, except the one I'm installing the OS to.
It's a lot safer that way. To date, I've had no problem installing any OS that will actually run on my PC.

Back to the OP's original problem. . . . . a registration key, that the installer cannot verify.
1. It's either a key for the wrong OS, or
2. It's not typed in correctly....= put Caps Lock ON and type the letters and numbers very carefully and do not type in the dashes.
3. It's demon possessed! (forget I said that)

I'm not dyslexic, but I can't even begin to tell you (all) how many times I've screwed up a Registration Key. At one time I had typed the key for Window 98 so many times that I memorized it. That sucks!
You know when you start memorizing Registration keys, it's time to find a different hobby. Eh?

I resigned from Itt Servcom, back in '88, when I realized I'd memorized a full page of ten digit part numbers. (in two columns)

Will y'all do me a big favor? DO HAVE a GREAT 2014!!!

Pressing Shift + F10 can often relieve the boredom at this point - it will start the command prompt window. If you are at the right stage of Windows setup, you can type taskmgr and open Task Manager, which will sometimes give you some idea of what is happening (often it is just compressed archives being expanded to the Windows system folders and verified).

If things really have stalled (it rarely, if ever, happens in a clean install, but may occur during an upgrade), you may be able to get things going again by starting OOBE, or by logging on with the net command, and starting explorer.
