All,

My son and I wanted to tackle our first ever computer build over the Holidays. Everything works, but we cannot load Windows 8 as the OS on a clean install.
How do I how to update the bios and drivers for the motherboard and HDD without having an OS on the computer? I also do not know where to get the SATA drivers for the WD HDD.

I have converted the HDD to GPT as I was getting that error code. Also Windows doesn't create the partitions necessary for the load....sometimes it creates 2 partitions, sometimes 4. After researching multiple sites, I'm thinking it should create 5 partitions prior to loading windows. Anyway, I believe the problem is not having current bios and HDD drivers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the full error code: "Windows 8 could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition for installation. Error code 0x80070057.

Thanks

Are you booting the DVD in UEFI mode?

As the new MOBO's now have a UEFI/BIOS firmware.

Thanks, but yes we have been booting in UEFI. I've rechecked BIOS multiple times as we re-attempt loading.

Did you clear your CMOS before attempting to install it? You do this by removing the CMOS battery and RAM for about 30 seconds then replacing it.

PC used mostly for home theater and gaming.
Soooo, from a different thread I saw where another person swapped their SATA cables. On a whim I switched the HDD to port 5 and the optical disk to port 6, and Windows 8 loaded fine.

To note, prior to load I went into DISKPART again and cleaned the HDD and converted it to gpt.

Glad this saga is over. 3xvery late nights of research on windows 8. Ha! Can anyone explain why swapping the SATA cables would matter? SMH...

Thank you all so much for the assistance. If it wasn't for this forum we never would have made it.

Looking at the manual, SATA ports 5, 6 are for RAID & ODD's.

What port did you have the DVD plugged in to.
