Prompt to Install Windows 8.1 Will NOT Go Away!

I booted up this morning and when I opened the first program, I was greeted with the prompt to install Windows 8.1. That may not be a bad thing for those who want Windows 8.1, but I don't. At least not until the bugs are killed off.

However, having said that, there was absolutely no way to shut that prompt off. The only two options were Install and Remind Me Later. This is not the first time I've gotten that prompt that cannot be told to just go away and not come back. Since I was forced to click on Remind Me Later, the blasted thing will be ba-a-ack!

I may be just ranting and raving here, because I don't think Microsoft intends to allow me to update within my own time frame . . . but . . .

Has anyone succeeded in keeping this prompt from appearing?

Thanks in advance.

I read somewhere you need to apply a registry change to block those prompts, dunno if this works since I already clean installed Win8.1 on all my computers, but worth a try if you ask me.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore]
"DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001

Copy / pase that into a .txt and change the extension to .reg and double click to import.

I just came across the post about making the registry change you mentioned: Disable Windows 8 Auto Update to 8.1 in store

Uninstalling KB2871389 seems like a simpler fix though.

Not to discount OldMX's information, but I do agree that it's easier to uninstall KB2871389. If uninstalling doesn't work, I'll still have his/hers to work with. And what Shawn said too. I think he's given instructions on how to uninstall the KB.

Have you uninstalled the KB and did it work?

I made the registry change. Don't know if it works or not yet, will have to wait and see.

How often is the annoying message supposed to be displayed? I saw it the first time yesterday and I got the new computer on the 19th, so that was 4 days.

I uninstalled the Update, so we'll see which of us sees it again . . . or not . . . :) And we both seem to have gotten the prompt around the same time so I guess we wait.
