Win 7 install disc differences ?

I hope it will be OK to ask a Win 7 question in this forum.
I am making some Win 7 usb installation flash drives from the cd/dvd disc. I have Full/retail disc and upgrade disc. Does anyone know if these disc are the same with just different product keys or are the disc different? I have both 32b and 64b. THANKS. Undine.

    Hello undine,

A product key for an edition (ex: Ultimate) can be used to activate the 32-bit and 64-bit version of that edition. However, you can only have one installation activated with the key at the same time, and not multiple installations.

If it's a different edition (ex: Professional) than what the key is for (ex: Ultimate), then you will need a new key for that edition (ex: Professional) instead.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

After making a x32 or x64 bootable USB Pen Drive, delete the ei.cfg file in SOURCES, you will then have a all version installer.

    For USB:

THANK both of you for your replies. I understand what both of you are saying and I'll go from your replies. But, let me ask the question in a different way. Can I use a "full retail" disc to reinstall a system on an "upgrade" computer by using the "upgrade" product key? THANKS to all and Merry Christmas.

Yes, you sure can, but you would need to use the method in the tutorial below to do a clean install with an upgrade Windows 7, and be able to activate it afterwards.

theog, Your mod worked great. It gives you a choice of versions. I did not see that folder in my 8.1 flash drive. Is there something like that for the Win 8 or 8.1 systems? THANKS for all the help.

No need as a Full Retail Windows 8/8.1 will install Core or Pro.

For a example, if you type in a Core Product Key, Core will be installed.

but a Windows 8.1 installer will not use a Windows 8 key.
