    32 bit, 64 bit?

My netbook is running 32 bit Win7 starter,
    and
i read that 64 bit OS needs 4G of RAM,

Can 64 bit Win work on this netbook if RAM is upgraded to 4G?

We might be able to tell you if we knew which netbook. We also need your system specs.

    Hi Pegasus01,

    Take a look at:-

    Intel® Atom)

This is your processor? - 32 bit intruction set. No Virtualization features which is probably why the Accelerator Tab won't work in Virtualbox.

If you have Atom N455 in it, with 2gb RAM. I guess it works well with 64-bit. Did it to My Samsung Netbook. The idea abut RAM is that 64-bit is capable to handle RAM up to 2 tb, while 32-bit just 4 gb or less.

64-bit can be used on any system, regardless of how much RAM you have. 32-bit can do that also, however, it can only utilise up to 4GB of that RAM. Therefore, if you have anything less than 4GB of RAM, 32-bit is the way to go.

You said in your first post though, that you'll be upgrading to 4GB RAM. If you want to use all of that RAM, a 64-bit OS is recommended.

To make things a bit easier for us, would you mind filling out your system specs? You could do so by going to your profile (here) and clicking on the System Spec tab. From there, you should be able to fill them out one by one. Alternatively, you could simply fill out or post the brand and model of your netbook.

N455 is 64-bit, but says max 2Gb memory:-

    Intel® Atom

I reckon the Virtualbox route would be v slow - a dual-boot 64bit would be ok. I presume there's space on the HDD for a 25Gb partition?

Starter only comes in a 32 bit, two gig max ram.....So you will need a full copy of Windows home....

Also since this system was set up with Windows starter in mind it may not even be possible to upgrade the ram....How about those specs?

    Hi there
I've got an acer aspire 1 netbook with the V105 processor -- upped memory to 4GB and changed to an SSD drive.

64 bit W7 / W8 preview works fine -- running also vmware workstation 8.02 with a W2003 Virtual server !!!! on the netbook.

Works ok so long as you don't try and run too many applications at the same time --especially if playing a movie using an external monitor opr the HDMI output.

A Netbook isn't intended to be a complete replacement for a more powerful machine but its surprising what you can actually do with it.

    Cheers

I did it to my Samsung netbook. Another pleasure for a show-off-class teaching 3 days a week.
