Hello to all

I am not sure if this has been asked or answered before coz i cannot find the answer to what i have been looking for.

My other Laptop is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have used the Windows 8 Tool Upgrade Assistant and identified those which are COMPATIBLE AND NOT COMPATIBLE.

I would like to know if AFTER I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE UPGRADE from 7 to 8:

>Do i still have to RE-INSTALL the GAMES AND OTHER PROGRAMS that are listed COMPATIBLE after checking with upgrade assistant?

Thanks alot.

I would be sure and have the latest version of my hardware drivers on hand ready to install. You'll need to check with your manufactures web site for updated drivers for win 8 and 8.1.

Using the in place upgrade method you shouldn't have to reinstall any software you may have to update for drivers/software compatible with 8 and or 8.1.

I would check each ones website for win 8 8.1 versions!! Some may need to be upgraded before you go for the upgrade OS.

I think you can bypass 8 and go straight into 8.1 but you'll have to do a clean install and reinstall all your software This is what I would recommend anyway, flushes out a lot of crap gives you the option, do I really need that program any longer or is just taking up space and resources?

You'll find tutorials at the top of this forum sticky threads.

Firstly I ALREADY HAVE UPDATED EVERYTHING from windows updates & to my hardware/drivers as well, as of today...

>>> What I DO NOT WANT TO DO AGAIN is to REINSTALL programs/software PARTICULARLY GAMES WHICH IS VERY TIME CONSUMING.

>>> NOR I DO NOT WANT TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL.

>>> BUT IF BY DOING THE UPGRADE FROM 7 TO 8/8.1, I HAVE TO DO THE REINSTALLING OF SOFTWARE, then don't you think this is just the same as CLEAN INSTALL? the purpose of upgrade is useless then..

You shouldn't have to reinstall your software is you upgrade in place. only if you clean install would you need to reinstall all your software. Sorry if I confused you. If upgrade assistant told you a program or driver was not compatible be sure to uninstall that program or disable any drivers that are not compatible. Good luck with your upgrade. keep us posted on your progress lots of help here if you need it.

anyways good thing that i rechecked again using windows 8.1 upgrade tool assistant, there it is very CLEAR THAT if i upgrade, IT SAYS THERE THAT I HAVE TO REINSTALL ALL THE COMPATIBLE APPLICATIONS presently with my win7. and that i do not intend to do right now.. better stick with win7 coz i have games on-going and afraid of losing save data games..
