Correct steps win 8.1 clean install?l (8 pro upgrade key)

Hi, I have recently purchased Windows 8 Pro Upgrade and for Christmas I will be getting my first SSD.

I want to do a clean install of 8.1 via USB, is this possible with the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade key? I have read through numerous tutorials and think I've got it right but just want some to clarify this will work.

    Download the 8.1 ISO
Use the generic key to run the installer
    Setup the PC
    Open PC Settings
Change Product Key enter Win 8 Pro (upgrade) key and activate

Do I then need to do the reg edit and command prompt changes?
    Regedit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE
    Command prompt - slmgr /rearm

Do I have this right or am I missing something?

    Thanks

I don't think you need to do anything once your clean installed to 8.1 pro and activated with your 8.1 pro Key your done, test your system and install your programs

Thanks for the reply, however my key is a Win 8 Pro Upgrade key not a win 8.1 key. I thought because it was an upgrade key I have to go through the steps in the op.

This is one of the tutorials I was reffering to reading, but I'm slightly confused in the process because I want to install a clean install. I think I must be not getting something.

No, because all retail copies of Windows 8.1 are "full" licenses instead of upgrade-only licenses.

Well I clean installed from original win 7 HP to Win 8.1 pro, I used the $14.99 Win 8 pro key I got with my computer just before win 8 was released to the public. Check out this Guide its for a Asus notebook, however the procedure will work for any computer just adjust the driver installation to the correct drivers for your computer. And yes you may need some drivers that are update for 8.1 you need to check with your manufacture for any updated drivers for your specific computer have them downloaded and ready to install before you start. Seems that Wifi and Bluetooth, LAN a Video drivers need to be updated at least for me.

Oh really, that's great so I just need to run the setup via usb and put my key in at the end?

    Thanks

I did clean install of 8.1 using 8 pro upgrade key (it was an upgrade from 7 ultimate). Installed using generic 8.1 key and activated using my 8 pro key. I did not have to do the regedit step.

Note that when I did clean install of 8 (not 8.1) I did have to do the regedit step but for 8.1 I did not.

It will be obvious to you - if your key is accepted for the activation then you are done.
