Hey, I'm running a windows 8.1 laptop. something is wrong with my computer and I can not fix it no matter how hard I try, so I would like to reformat the partition/hard-drive/computer. I do not care about the files on it. I only want my OP (Windows 8.1) back after the reformat. I heard that there was a way (online) to re download and install my windows 8? Using my google account or something? So i wouldn't have to back up my OP, which so far has been unsuccessful :/ Please help me! Thank you.

After a update of Windows 8 to 8.1, Reset, Refresh will only work for Windows 8.

Is this a OEM manufacturer's PC with Pre-installed Windows 8?

I do not bother backing up anymore because at the time I actually needed it, and had a valid backup saved, the computer refused to install it. No matter what I tried, it did not work. I think backups are useful for data salvage in offices etc. But here, I start again, even though its a bit of a nuisance. Luckily I have only done it twice since I had this pc.

Use a backup program other than what comes with Windows and you will be okay.

Acronis True Image works well for me with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
I'm using Macrium Reflect Free on my Windows 7 system currently.
