win 8 to win 8.1

I am afraid of going from win 8 to win 8.1 I do not know if it is safe after reading some reviews or if i might mess up my PC with not knowing how to upgrade properly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Updating

I upgraded my system from Windows 7 Home Edition to Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro in a short period of time and had no problems. Only one program failed to work on Windows 8 (a freebie one) and some just needed to use compatibility mode to work with no problems.
I would recommend a full backup of the hard disk before doing any major changes.

I upgraded from 8 to 8.1 right after the update came out and initially had some problems with Protected Mode in ie11 and random freeze ups of the OS itself. But since running the latest updates, the issues have disappeared. So if you do run the upgrade to 8.1 make sure to download all the other updates as well.

Tyvm for responding. I don't really know how to back up other then CD's fore I do not know which FREE back up program i should trust. I say free and afraid because i have been using my PC to apply for jobs and i do not want to overstep and get confused when I am getting use to win 8 but everything n everywhere u go states everything runs smoother win 8.1

Do you guys know if there is a Time Limit for win 8 users to upgrade to 8.1 for free?

If you 2 would be so kind to direct me to where i can get help with Apps that are on PC but not installed?

Can I delete mp3's from the you tube down loader once i play them from my PC? I hope that makes sense

You can use a usb drive to store the backup image.

look for a 3rd party ,Backup software, which fully supports Windows 8, uEFI, GPT & Secure Boot.
Which is signed by Microsoft.
