Can't install/boot OS after replacing HD (laptop fell...)

Hi, thank you in advance for any and all replies!
My toshiba satalite laptop fell and the hard drive needed to be replaced. It came in the mail today and I installed it without problems but when I try to start I get this sole message: Boot media (failed). And I don't have a windows 8 installation disc-did not come with laptop/I'm suppose to burn one off this laptop but haven't had a change yet
    What is going on?
Do I need to buy a new windows 8 OS from Toshiba too???

Contact Toshiba, see if you can get a recovery disk from them.

No you don't need to buy another copy of Win 8, your product key is embedded on your motherboard. You will have to clean install win 8 or 8.1. If you don't have a drivers disk you will need to download your hardware drivers.

Jennifer check out this thread Activate retail Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key.
You can download an ISO or just borrow a hard copy from someone? Should be the same version as what you have Core or Pro. Go through the sticky's in this section. once your installed you can extract your key if you don't already know what it is? you also need to know if your system is MBR or UEFI GPT? you'll create your install media differently for the different systems all the new systems are UEFI GPT not BIOS MBR

If you can get your hands on a Windows 8 DVD it will read the embedded code automatically during the install and install the matching version all by itself. You won't be prompted to enter a product code. Windows 8.1 is a different story though, it won't accept a Windows 8 product code during installation. You need to use a Windows 8.1 code to get it installed, there are leaked install codes that will let you install but won't activate. Once its installed you can activate as posted in the tutorial in the above post. Your going to have a hard time getting an ISO as the download trick mentioned in another thread here on 8 forums won't accept OEM keys. Good luck.

Did Toshiba tell you the drive would be pre-installed with the OS?

Have you checked the bios to see if it is set as first priority in the boot devices? And it may need to show as Windows Boot Manager if you have an UEFI system, and if the OS was pre-installed, it probably is.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

    information   Information

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

I am looking at getting either a Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T or the Asus VivoTab (not the RT) but I am wondering, is it possible to upgrade the SSD? My thought is that these may be running just normal SSDs and non chips soldered onto the board.
