Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create
That is the Windows 8.1 GA. not the RTM.
How did I know you were going to say that. Yeah so what, its not like it makes all that much difference in this case. In any case there are legal downloads for the RTM, just ask anyone who has a TechNet or MSDN subscription.

    4) Activate Windows 8.1 with your Windows 8 "MSDM KEY".
Why would the key found in step 3 be any different from the one entered in step 2? You can't activate with the generic install keys?
Because its a RTM Retail version and you want to use your bios embedded Win 8 Key. You need a Install only key these keys will not activate they only allow the installation to continue. After the install completion you Activate using your Key that you extracted from your BIOS. I used a guide that I found on this website ASUS G75VW Windows 8.1 clean install guide - Tweak Arena Forums Worked for me I used my $14.95 Win 8 pro upgrade Key.

Well then if you knew there were legal downloads for the RTM, why did you say there weren't any?

Telling OP's that they can use a TechNet or MSDN DVD is of NO help, as they can not legally download.

Yes I know that. That utility that is linked to, doesn't read the product code stored in the BIOS, it reads the key currently in use that is stored in the Windows registry. For it to actually read back the embedded key you would have to run it a PC that still has the factory OEM install. If you run it after installing 8.1 with a generic key its just going to read back the generic key. I ran it on my laptop and it read back my Media Center key, not my embedded key. Also its not stated that your PC has to have an embedded key for that to work.

I see your point but saying there are no legal downloads is not correct? For the average Joe the RTM is not easily obtainable.

I just bought a Dell comes with OEM Windows 8.1. I tried to create a partition, after that, I cannot boot up Windows any more. I bought this Dell from Best Buy, but Best Buy won't give me the Windows key, Dell also refused to support. From above messages, seems the Windows key can be found in BIOS. How can I find this key? I can still go to BIOS setup. Please help.

I have created a set of 2 Recovery disc before I made the new partition. But these Recovery disc won't work. When Disc 1 finished, I put in Disc 2, and it just sit there ("Preparing the Hard Drive......") and won't go any further. I think these Disc cannot find the Recovery partition in my Dell laptop. Any other way can make my laptop alive ?
