Solved Installing fresh Windows 8 - partitions

So I'm going to install a fresh Windows 8 on my new Acer Aspire V5 laptop. When I come to the drive/partition window it asks "Where do you want to install Windows?". The following partitions already exist:



  • 1: Recovery | Type Recovery
  • 2: ESP | Type System
  • 3: (no name) | Type MSR (Reserved)
  • 4: Acer | Type Primary
  • 5: Push Button Reset | Type Recovery

Is it safe to delete all these partitions?

Are you installing 8.1 from a disk or from the Store using a Microsoft account ?

From a USB flash drive. But nevermind, i just deleted all the partitions. Gotta take some chances in life hehe. Now have 1 single partition and installing. Seems to work fine. I'll let ya know if i get troubles.

It should create its own partitions.

I hope you took the time to create your factory recovery discs, just in case you wanted to revert to an OEM structure in the future, because you have just killed all Acer recovery options so please do a system image backup as soon as you have your new "clean install" up and running.

Now, don't get me wrong, I also prefer to do a clean install (over OEM) as you are doing right now; however, just make sure you backup you new installation ASAP so you have a viable way to recover going forward.
