Hi...this is a stupid question...but like Forrest's mom said in the movie....anyway, I've been using the Developer preview since the beginning of October...and I love it. My question is: how do you change the name, avatar and email address that I had to use when installing it ? Not an earth-shattering thing but it is driving me a bit nuts... ( some would say that it's a short drive, at best ) Thanks, anyone.

Thanks...but that doesn't work with Developer...at least, not for me. It wants a "Live" account and I don't. My old email address is still there, There's no way to change the avatar and all you can do is change your password. Like I said, no big deal and that will probably change with Beta....

Note   Note
Do you have a Windows Live Hotmail address? If you don't, this method will not work.

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Click Users.
  3. Click the option to change to a local account.
  4. Now, change back to a Windows Live ID.
  5. Enter your new address.
  6. Log off and back on.

No...I had two hotmail accounts that got hacked before and after I switched to Developer...needless to say, I won't use any Windows email account now and I'm too lazy to constantly change passwords like some people change their socks. Instead, I just went to a really secure email provider...and they happen to be based a couple hundred miles from where I live. ( Hushmail ) Like I said...it's not a big deal and I can live with it until the Beta version is out. I just thought it could be done easier...HOWEVER, do you know how to change my IP address " quick 'n easy "? Thanks...

Your IP address is provided by your ISP, besides why would you want to change it?

If the email etc, bothers you, you could always do a clean re-install.

...because I can ??? I take my security a bit more seriously now....and changing an IP address is something I will try to do, on a regular basis if I can....or try proxy servers. ( wouldn't the re-install want a Windows account, btw ? )

If you do a clean re-install you can just skip the email account and even passw if you want ;)

To change you ip.

1Open your command Prompt
2 type: ipconfig/release wait for it to release
and you will see your connection will stop on your
internet Icon in the lower right.
3 type: ipconfig/renew
and your internet connection will come back.

it only takes about 30 seconds and yes I have done it with WDP :)

OK...bear with me as I'm more than a borderline computer 'tard...First off, I can't even begin to find out how to access "command prompt" on Developer. We have 4 computers on this wireless router, so I got it using the one with Vista on it. I typed it in...then what ?...push Enter? Sorry but you guys have to draw me a detailed picture here....( did I mention that I'm also legally blind ?...that complicates things just a bit. Now you know why I like my Android phone and BIG, expandable touch screen capabilities ) Anyway, I typed in ipconfig and punned Enter...waited about a minute then typed in Renew....it didn't change the IP. Maybe I have to get my ISP ( cable company) to change it... NOW, I'm starting to get frustrated...where's my pills ?....anyone see my pills ?
