Can't restore Windows 8 64-bit

Hi all :)

New here looking for the (hopefully) final steps in my recovery process.
Wasn't 100% sure where to ask, hopefully this will be okay in here.

I'm running a Windows 8 recovery disc off of a USB, and I'm trying to restore, refresh, reset, anything at this point.
But I go into all the troubleshooting options and advanced options and it doesn't allow me to "choose a target operating system" as nothing appears such as my Windows 8.

I'm on an Asus laptop, I've backed-up my files to an external hdd, so at this point I just want to get my laptop running again.
This all started with the "automatic repair loop" to which I've used EasyRE to purchase a recovery disc, backed up my files, and now I'm at this point where I can't finalize the process.

Also how should I be booting from a USB properly?
I hold F2 on start up, switch to “Boot” and set “Launch CSM” to Enabled. Then switch to “Security” and set “Secure Boot Control” to Disabled. Then restart and hold Esc for the Boot menu and boot from the USB.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! :D

Cheers guys.

EDIT:

Just thought I'd add something now that I've searched around here and tried ALOT of things.

I'm willing to do whatever to simply reset my laptop. Tried everything that I've found, text in that black command box (I'm really not too flash with computers) like the chkdsk and it all came out fine. It's just when I go to try to recover/restore/reset ANYTHING when I've booted from the USB it tells me there isn't an operating system to do so from.

System restore/factory reset from cmd prompt?

Is there anyway to do a system restore/factory reset via the cmd prompt?

It's pretty much all I have access to on my laptop via a Windows 8 recovery USB I've booted, and it's all I've got in terms of trying to recover/reset my Asus laptop (I don't have the Windows 8 installations).

I can't do a refresh, reset, restore, repair, anything from the system recovery options, all I've got is this... :(

Thanks guys.

Have you made the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

information   Information

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

You can make a Microsoft Recovery USB Drive

I personally DO NOT RECOMMEND using this METHOD above, as of the ERRORS you may receive below with the Microsoft Recovery USB Drive. You would be best off using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or Recovery USB drive.

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.
or
You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.

The Windows Recovery USB drive & Recovery Partition can be very problematic, I recommend you also make a Windows System Image.

look for a 3rd party ,Backup software, which fully supports Windows 8, uEFI, GPT & Secure Boot.

ASUS now have a recovery .app

No I didn't make the recovery disks whilst I had my laptop.
However I have created a bootable windows 8 64-bit USB recovery drive which is what I've been using to access the system recovery menu.

There are a couple of ways to do this. Neither are particularly straightforward.

It is probably easier to locate a win8.1 iso from ... somewhere, and install that.

Hmmm yeah I'm not the best with computers but like I said just want to get it up and running in a normal state again.
Well I decided yesterday to get it sent it, it's under warranty so that should be all good.
Any ideas what the problem is in the first place? Like I said it started with the automatic repair loop randomly a few days ago. After tons of research and countless restarts I still couldn't fix it haha :/

You should always provide your specific make/model number first so the proper information can be referenced accordingly. There may be a way to do a factory restore without the need for the discs; however, no way to tell at this point. Check your manual to see if you have that availability via an Fxx key on boot. Good luck.

Yeah it's an Asus R501VZ laptop.

You are in luck! It appears you can access your recovery options via F9 at boot. Download your manual here and follow the instructions. Hope you found my suggestion helpful. Good luck.

Okay wow thanks, so I booted with F9 and went F8 and booted into Safe Mode.
Not 100% sure what to do from this point though?
I'm logged in in safe mode, everything seems to be in order, but what's the next step from here?

Thanks for the help so far fellas!!

EDIT: Whoa so I'm about to refresh the laptop, made it into PC Settings -> General -> Refresh.
Just gotta free up some disc space before it can go through with the process.
I will let you all know how this goes!!! :D Please work haha.

Edit 2: Is there a way to do a system restore from here? Or due to the circumstance is it better to do the complete refresh?

Just quickly - these two posts above from my2cents and David; is there a difference?
I mean they are different methods but what's the outcome? Should I give the system restore a try first from the cmd prompt?
Sorry for the number of questions.

No wait! You suggestion is appropriate as well. I just thought the OP was looking to do a full factory recovery but it seems he may have found a way to get to a point where he can use your suggestion to revert to a previous restore point, and that may be an even better solution! Let's see if the OP wants to go your route first. Very good David!

Appreciate everybody's help ALOT!!
I'm on my way out, but I'll give the restore a try in a few hours.
And my2cents yeah mate you were right, I was looking for a complete reset. But now that I can access safe mode and it seems I have some options, maybe the restore or refresh might be the go.
I will let you guys know how it goes.

Hey Beast100,

I think you got the right idea... now that you have two possible ways to go. And, a big thanks to David for chiming in at just the right time! I owe you yet another rep for that nice alternative suggestion.

Cheers,

Alright fellas, just executed rstrui.exe in cmd prompt, apparently it's restoring to a restore point from 6 days ago (I started having the issues about 4 days ago) so I will let you know how this goes. Currently says "System Restore is initializing" so I'll let that run while I have lunch :D
