two problems with win 8 over vista

Okay, so i installed a 64 bit win 8 on my 32 bit vista, i wanted it to install over vista, which, it did not do, problem number 1. secondyly, i'm now stuck on a screen just after installation saying 'getting system ready' and i'm not sure how to procede, i'm actually using my new laptop which is a win 7 64 bit to type this, so i have not actually cancelled the system readying process, it's still going as i type this out. any help would be appreciated?

    i don't think you can install a 64bit over a 32bit os.

When changing from 32 bit to 64 or 64 to 32, you have to do a clean install with format.

when you install, it shows you two choises: either

    Upgrade <don't select me>
Upgrade means that all of your programs, files (and some setings) will be saved, when you change the operating system.

    Advanced <select me >
Advanced means that you can control your computer's partitions, clean install means that You will lose everything you have in your computer

click advanced and it shows you something like this

You propably have 2 of those partitions there (more or less)

    Step 1.
    click 'Drive options (advanced)'

    Step 2.
remove those partitions until you have only 1 unallocated slot.

    Step 3.
click 'new' and (if you don't know what you're doing don't adjust the values)

then there will be 2 partitions + a small unallocated space

    just click next.

Keep in mind that those pictures are from windows 7 installations, something might look a little different.

hope this helps, and you might want to print these instructions
