Installation - Can't connect to internet

I purchased Windows 8 in Dec. 2012 and updated my Windows 7 with no problems at all. Was having some issues so decided to go back to factory defaults and start fresh, however, I understand that when you install 8 it removes the partition for 7 and you can't go back to 7 so what I got was Windows 8 anyway and everything else gone (like my programs etc) I got a USB from Toshiba with instructions to go back to 7 which I did.

Now that I have that all settled I would once again like to update to Windows 8 but when the install gets to the first part where it says it is connecting to the internet to get a few things I then get a message saying there is no internet connection but I am always connected to the internet. I have disabled my antivirus and firewall but still won't connect. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure where you are at right now but it sounds like you still have access to you existing windows 8 installation; correct? If so, could you please provide a screenshot of your disk management so we can see what you are trying to over-wirte when you attempt a clean install? Now, since you mentioned a clean install, I can only assume you are deleting all existing partitions before clicking next in this tutorial:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

The reason I'm asking for a screenshot is just in case you were not deleting all existing partitions because the installer does not do that automatically (if I remember correctly) and I have seen many strange results because of over-sights in this area.

Hello again loopygram,

Just in case you are having trouble uploading that image, here is what I think might be happening:

So, right now, you are back on windows 7 and you want to upgrade to Windows 8; correct? If so, the a clean install might not be what you want to do because that would destroy your OEM partition structure; however, in order to proceed correctly, you must select the correct installer when booting and your choices might be either Legacy or UEFI. With that said, you'll need to verify your existing installatiion so here is another way of doing it:

Go to Control Panel> Admin Tools> System Information> Software Environment> and see if your BIOS is set to Legacy or UEFI.

OK, that certainly looks like an OEM structure to me. Now, follow my previous post so we can determine (for sure) your type of installation.

Ok don't have exactly what you suggested. I see system config but not system summary. Here's the capture

Ok, you are on Win 7 so it is most likely a different path. Click on System Configuration and see if you can find your way to the suggested view.

OK, I can see that I'm going to have difficulty in assisting you because I can't walk you through some Windows 7 items. Anyway, I still think you need to verify your existing BIOS configuration (UEFI or Legacy) and then choose the appropriate installer on boot. Now, to do this, you will have to select the proper installer from either your DVD or USB device and your chices may look like this on the boot menu:

Boot menu:

CD/DVD
UEFI CD/DVD
USB (name of stick)
UEFI USB (name of stick)

With that said, I am convinced you do not have the correct installer selected because the classic signs of that (from my experience) have been either wifi not working or the auto restart/reboot does not work throughout the entire installation process. Good luck and hope someone else can assist you better.
