Solved Question about drivers whilst downgrading from 8 to 7

Hi,

I'm confused about what drivers I have installed on my laptop. I wanted to check if the drivers are compatible with windows 7.

I bought a Razer blade 14 notebook that came with windows 8 and was dissatisfied with it, so I thought I'd try and downgrading from windows 8 (not pro) to windows 7 home premium. I have a windows 7 home premium key and a windows 7 home premium 64bit installation iso file. I'm fairly sure I can figure out how to "burn?"(Not sure if it's the right term) it onto a flash drive and I think I can install 7 using guides, but the problem with most other laptops that I've changed the OS is that once I've installed 7 I don't know which drivers to install. For example, I attempted a clean system reinstallation on another laptop and didn't know what touchpad driver to install, nor did I know what network drivers I needed. I'd like to prevent that problem before installing a new OS on this laptop, and I've looked it up and one of the sites stated the drivers were from all the submenus in Device Manager. But there are tons and most with generic names.

In the downgrade process I've only disabled SecureBoot so far. I still have my Windows 8 up and running.

I guess my main issue is not knowing what drivers to install after windows 7 installation. I apologize for my lack of knowledge of computer OSs and I don't even know if this is the right question to ask nor if this is the proper forum section to post this in.

I won't be replying for a few hours as I have to go to sleep. But thanks in advance.

I have never had any luck with drivermax , it ALWAYS gives error 71762 'invalid driver file for <name of hardware> please try another driver'

Every single time without fail...

DriverMax works just fine for me. :dinesh:

Instead of DriverMate you should try DriverMax ?

I have never had any luck with drivermate ...

when i downgraded my old laptop from 8 to 7 I used Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool, it writes to the usb stick in a format where it starts up on bootup to install 7. its fast especially if you have usb 3.0 hubs which the Razer Blade does. The whole set up to from boot to finished install was about 35 minutes unlike reading a disk where it would have taken about an hour.

Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool does require an ISO file to execute the image creation (which you say you have).

download it from here

Hope this helps

I now have a older laptop with windows 8.1 on it as I like the model :D

I use it and NEVER get an error message.

You use it and, "Every single time without fail..." you get an error message.

What would this situation make people think ?

It leads me to believe that I am using DriverMax (not drivermate or drivermax) correctly and you are not.

It is not good to blame a program for producing errors simply because one cannot use it properly.

Welcome to EightForums

1) Downgrade to Windows 7.
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/13326-downgrade-windows-8-windows-7-a.html
Warning you must have the UEFI/BIOS firmware setting in Step Three set.

Make sure you read the NOTE at Step three.

2) If Using a USB Pen drive on a PC with a UEFI BIOS.
USB Pen drive need to be formatted to FAT32 as in
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html
Take note of Step 11 for Windows 7.
Also you will need to use a USB 2.0 port, as there are no USB 3.0 drivers in Windows 7.

You will need to buy Windows 7.

Thanks for all the replies.

So I take it that the razer site has all of the drivers I'd need?

I also don't really understand step 3 in Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7.
I do get the disabling SecureBoot but not much else. I'm guessing that I should check my CSM settings?

After a bit of researching I've found that some drivers are incompatible with windows 7 for the notebook with effects such as rendering the fn hotkeys useless. I decided not to take the trade-off and instead stay with Windows 8.
Thanks anyways.
