Hi there.

Your corporate IT dept should have given you an already VL copy - RETAIL copies are for individuals and have to be activated by the Ms servers - VL copies are activated by the KMS corporate server licenses - there isn't a LEGAL way of changing a RETAIL copy into a VL copy. If there were don't you think that this would be all over the Internet as people would be able to break the ONE copy per computer restriction.

Even with a VL copy from your IT dept it's only licensed to be used on a specific machine. It can be (with permission) moved to another machine but still needs to be re-activated by the KMS or other licensing servers.

Could he do an in place upgrade to the VL? Ie: Upgrade from W8 retail to W8 VL saving all software and user files? This licensing stuff is way too complicated.
