Shared printers - Printer connected to W8 machine

    Hi all
Anybody managed to solve the shared printer problem when a USB printer is attached to W8.

I can't find any place to enable sharing the printer and set its shared name. The printer installs and works just fine on the W8 system but W7 / XP machines can't access it.

I got round the problem by attaching the printer to a Virtual W2K3 server running on vmware on W8 -- then sharing works fine to other W7 / XP machines.

Still no way to share with W8 .

I'm sure I'm not the only person who wants to share a printer on W8 with other computers --- anybody got this working.

    Cheers

Hi Jimbo, I haven't actually tried this but if you open up Control Panel, go to Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers, Right click on your Printer and select create shortcut.

This should make a shortcut on your Desktop, when you right click on the shortcut you get the share options

    I hope this helps

    Hi there
I'm logged on to W7 at the moment so I can't post a pic of the W8 option. -- the Customize your printer (on the right) works in W7 but this doesn't appear on W8 I just have the two left icons and no Customize printer option.

I'll try later as I'm going out now to a nice Bar in the center of Brussels to watch LIVE UK Premier Footie -- all the Bars here get the Sat afternoon games unlike back in 'Ol Blighty.

    Cheers

I'm on Win8 right now and there's an option to share the printers.

I had this problem with my Canon MG5200 printer and none of the suggestions above helped (I was never given an option to share). However, right clicking my printer from the Devices and Printers screen and selecting "Troubleshoot" brought up an issue with sharing and asked if I wanted to fix it. I said yes and the issue was resolved.

I also had this problem(no sharing tab in printer properties)... This happens because(somehow) properties item on menu directs you to physical device properties(not a "file" of device).

To resolve this problem, try this....
Right click -> Open in new window
    Choose Customize printer
Now you should be able to share printer, set permissions etc...
I hope this helps... I had a lot of f**k**g with this.
P.S. Your actual situation may be a little different, but generally this should work.

You can also click Printer properties... Same result, but simpler.

Hi there When you first attach a USB Printer to W8 it will often install as a "USB Printer" but you won't be able to set it as default or use it as such. You need to actually Manually install your USB printer in most cases. Go via Control panel ==>devices and Printers ===> Advanced Printer...
