    Seperate dual boot drives

I recently installed Windows 8.1 on a second hard drive with a single partition. My Windows 7 is on the other disk and I am set up to dual boot.
I want to separate the two installations and just boot into Windows 8.1 and not be dependent the other installation. I'm not sure which disk the boot.ini file is located(or what ever it is called now). I would also like to keep on original installation of Windows 7 (bootable). Is this possible?

    Thanks

Can you please explain how your dual boot is currently arranged relative to your boot sequence and how you get the option to select which OS (drive) to boot from? This is important to know before making any specific recommendation.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like the boot drive is C: (Disk 1). My existing win 7 is on the DDisk 0). When I start up I am prompted to choose Win 7 or Win 8 (default). I reformatted disk CDisk 1) as a single partition and booted from the Win 8.1 installation and directed the installation to (Disk 1). I am liking Win 8.1 and want to use it exclusively, but want to keep the other disk drive as a bootable windows 7 drive.

    1) Physically disconnect the Windows 7 HD.
Make the Windows 8 HD, disk0 & first HD boot in BIOS.Also connected to the first Sata port on the MOBO.

    2) Boot the Windows 8 DVD/USB
Mark the Windows 8 HD Drive ACTIVE

    3) Do a Auto Repair:
Automatic Repair - Run in Windows 8
Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.

In addition to theog's instruction above. To remove Windows 8.1 from the boot menu in Windows 7:
    1. Boot Windows 7
    2. Win+R then type: msconfig
    3. Click on Boot tab, click to select Windows 8.1 then click on Delete
