Hello,

Tried updating my Windows 8 machine this morning to 8.1 using the app store method.

Everything seemed to run fine when downloading from the app store, and it finally asked me to reboot.

I did and it started to set things up and eventually rebooted again.

After this reboot, the machine said restoring previous OS. After it did that, it couldnt boot. I am getting a Winload.exe could not be found.

I have tried the following to no avail; automatic repair, refreshing, restoring, and doing a manual restore of winload.exe from the following link.
Coder for Life - Project - Windows 7 Boot Updater: Restoring winload.exe Manually
However, when I try that, it says "Could not find D:\windows\system32\winload.exe".

I am trying to avoid reinstalling Windows, so does any one have any suggestions?
