8.1 requiring microsoft login?

I have been running Windows 8 pro 64 bit with media center since its release. I have a local account and only use my MS account for apps. I wanted to try out 8.1 so I imaged my boot drive and then upgraded to 8.1 through the app store. Once complete I could only login to my MS account. Local login was not an option. My local user account was not listed though my user folder was still present in C:\windows\user. I played around with this problem for a few minutes and do to limited time said the hell with it and imaged back to W8. I tried searching for this problem but found nothing. Has anyone else seen this happen?

I think I may have a reason for this happening but its going to take more time to test than I have right now. I believe all user accounts should be password protected to protect against hacking if someone some how gets on my network. Since my PC only has one user account I use control userpasswords2 to auto log me in. By me doing this previously the option to login to my local account in windows 8.1 is hidden? More info, during the final part of the upgrade windows showed my local account and wanted me to login which I did. Then it wanted me to login to my MS account which I also did. From that point forward I could never find mention of my local account anywhere on the PC.

Thanks
Bill

Look for a way to rename and give a new password to the new account. What they do is take over your previous user account and make it the MS account. Know that if you make a new user account and delete the MS one that you will loose your ability to go back to 8 with windows.old directory and also you will loose all your files/data.

I THINK you can create your new account, then copy all your data over to the new account folders, then delete the old account but I have not tried that.

Also there are ways around creating the MS account, one, if I remember correctly is to at the screen asking for your MS info, go to create a new account, then cancel and supposedly it goes to the original one but again have not tried that.

When I get some time I will give this method a shot. A friend in IT claims if the PC is not on the net during the install this problem does not happen. We will see when I have some time. MS borked this big time. I guess you can see the writing on the wall. MS wants all user accounts in the cloud and will do everything they can to get it done.

I know it works, I've done it 4 or 5 times now and always use a local account.
