Where it says "windows is downloading" if you right click there you will see a tick. Right click near the bottom of the screen, where a task bar will appear, then pause it, then resume.

I have the same issue as dino on updating to 8.1 from the Windows store. When it gets to "next you will set up your account" it hangs. All of the install goes fine until that point. I had to force shutdown and then reboot twice to get back to the desktop. I'm running an almost new HP p7 desktop with Windows 8 pre-installed. I've tried twice with same results. Thoughts, suggestions appreciated.

I wasn't at my comp when I replied earlier, but here's what I mean by "Panel" (See Img).
Mine was hanging on D/L so I stopped and restarted it.
Tip; you can start Task Manager and see if there's is internet traffic, this is also useful to see if your CPU is active or not, when installing etc.

It's true that downloading was slow to start for many people due to the heavy traffic on the MS servers. The problem for some of us is the install itself. It would appear I'm staying at 8.0 until MS comes out with a fix.

Hello stackcats,

It's most likely due to the Microsoft servers being overloaded. However, you might see if clearing the Store cache, and trying again during off peak hours may help.

This is exactly my problem!!!!!!

I found the solution on another forum. Immediately after the 1st reboot in the installation, disable your internet connection. Let the install proceed and it will bypass the "next you will set up your account" and will proceed to finalizing the install. Once it gets to the logon screen you can re-enable your internet connection and you should be okay.
