Windows 8.1 Fails Install

So, I downloaded and tried to install the 8.1 pro windows update from the store.

It gave me a failure message, something 190012

The essential reason it failed though is that I have an SSD drive for my boot C disk and I used the tutorial steps here (long ago now) to redirect/move my user's folder and program files folder to my larger D drive (not a SSD).

Anyone else who has done this got that error and anyone seen a work around?

Hello Thanatos, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm afraid that the only workaround would be to move those folders back to C. The programs you may have to reinstall to get back though. If so, then I would wait until after 8.1 was finished updating. :(

Thanks for the welcome - I've lurked around here in the shadows awhile, like for the tutorial I mentioned.

Yeah, at that rate it might just be better/easier to just reinstall the OS from scratch, do all the updates and then move users and program files back to D drive.

The update actually doesn't finish and it even seems to delete the download, because it makes me do it all over again.

Or maybe time to invest in a larger SSD so the moves aren't necessary.

But I thought I'd check here first and see if anyone had uncovered anything that wouldn't make all that necessary.

Thanks!

You're welcome. It would be nice, but no dice so far. :(
