Is there a way for me to go ahead and upgrade to Windows 8.1? I am currently running regular Windows 8 Core Edition.

The official release date is October 18th. (I think) so, be patient for another week and you'll be able to upgrade to Win 8.1 via the Windows Store. Good luck.

If you have a TechNet or MSDN subscription you can download the ISO and upgrade that way. Other than that or getting your hands on an ISO, no. You'll have to wait for it to become available via the Windows Store.

Okay, so I know that if you want to install Windows 8 Pro, which I want, you need to have Windows 7 installed, in my case Windows 7 Ultimate, or any previous version of Windows.
