I installed Windows 8.1 Beta and all my programs again. It runs fine most of the time; but a few quirks here and there which can be (or were) mostly ironed out...
I have bought an Amazon copy of Windows 8 Pro and want to use the code in the box to legitimise? the current version of windows 8.1 in a few weeks when 8.1 Pro is officially released (plus with any update it may require).
1) Will putting in a Windows 8 Pro code work (for it to auto-update to the latest version of Windows 8.1 via the Windows Update service); even though this is the Evaluation copy of Windows 8.1?
2) Will there be no problems? (Obviously there will).
3) Should I do it? OR wait and pay twice as much for a copy of Windows 8.1 with updates already on the disc and then have to spend another fifty to seventy hours getting my computer and programs (and files) back to normal with another full re-install (remembering every passcode and password and file in the process)?
N.B.; I only ever buy software with DVD discs. Always with a hard copy back-up for when pre-WW3 starts and the plug is pulled from the internet.
4) Or; will Windows 8.1 run out in a couple of weeks and force me to buy a copy on the internet only?
I say this (at `4)`) because I tried to pay for Windows 8.1 online from my System Properties window (Update online) and it told me generally, that, because I am abroad, (Japan) that I cannot buy windows 8.1 (At least not yet), not using the English language Microsoft Update Purchasing service (words to that effect).
5) Will that always be the case (because I can use the Windows 8 Pro DVD set I bought already for another PC I am re-building)?
I dont want to use the Windows 8 Pro code on the PC in question, if doing so will be a pain in the donkey. I would rather save it to use on another PC I am updating fully as I prefer the main PC to have an copy of W8.1 from disc (less downloads required to update) if there will be any `issues`; as there always seems to be with Windows.
I worry that if I try and use the code on the main PC, and it refuses to play, then I will have gigabytes of W8 updates/downloads if/when I have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything again (as millions of people have had to do with various versions of Windows over the past twenty years). . For this PC I would rather install a New purchase of W8.1 if there will be problems with putting a W8 Pro code on W8.1 evaluation.
