windows 8 pro VL 64 bit ISO

hey guys, I am new to upgrading windows 7 to windows 8, so please help me out :-

#I have -
*windows 7 home premium(along with laptop)
*64 bit version
*legitimate windows 8 pro key ( volume licence version ) so this isn't a piracy request.(I HATE IT MYSELF!)

#I want this -
1) upgrade to windows 8 pro
2)download link of clean iso file of windows 8 pro, if you can provide.

Confusions/queries -
1)Do I have to upgrade to windows 8 first and then windows 8 pro? or I can upgrade to windows 8 pro directly
2) What is this volume licence version and retail licence version difference? which is better in features, if any.

#Errors I found yet -
" this product key cannot be used to install a retail version of windows 8 "
That's all for now.
Thanks in advance!

A regular Retail Windows 8 ISO/DVD will not accept a VL Product code. You need 8 Pro VL install media. If you have a legitimate VL key you should have access to the install media from the same source you got the key from. The only clean download links from Microsoft are for TechNet or MSDN and you need an account to actually download from them.

solution#2- the error persists.(=windows 8 setup fails)

hmmm...I can't get the install media from Msdn or technet but I will try getting it from my source of key. Any way , Is there any feature difference in retail windows 8 pro and VL windows 8 pro? if yes, which is better?

from my university, It was huge pain in just getting the key so I thought I can download windows 8 pro install media from internet and only key matters, but seems I have to request the install media as well.

I don't think there is any difference other than the way they activate. I'd have to read up on it to be 100% sure though.

well both are pro version so there shouldn't be any difference. But I read somewhere that VL version doesn't support "add features" option ... guess I have to actually install to find out.
thanks!

As you are using University software have a word with the University IT Administrator.

i will . Thanks.

Windows 8 Pro includes all the features of Windows 8. Additional features include the ability to receive Remote Desktop connections, the ability to participate in a Windows Server domain, Encrypting File System, Hyper-V, and Virtual Hard Disk Booting, Group Policy as well as BitLocker and BitLocker To Go. Windows Media Center functionality is available only for Windows 8 Pro as a separate software package.
So they are same featured versions, huh? except I will have to add media center separately .
Thanks for info.

Adding Media Center would be the only upgrade to 8 Pro though add features. I do believe Media Center is blocked on the Enterprise version of Windows 8, not sure about VL though.

What Mr Sardonicus posted is a list of the features added when you go from 8 to 8 Pro. Media Center is a further upgrade on top of that, and you have to have 8 Pro to be able to add it.
