I guess this is the right area to post this in.

I got the paid version of Macrium Reflect & did an image of all local drives:

imagedrives.png

And a .wim file:

wim.png

Both on USBs.

If I ever need to reinstall & get ALL my stuff back, would the Image or the .wim be best ?

I used the PE4.

Plus I made the bootable rescue media for Windows.

Your systems are in the image files of 32 GB. The Wim file contains a bootable preinstallation environment for windows WinPE, and none of your data, in its 161 MB.
Macrium uses the WinPE to boot into the restore process, as described in the Macrium literature.

1) I would YES to the above, but I do not use Macrium Reflect.

2) but the bootable disk does not look right.
Looks like you have no boot files.

For example.

Thank you both.

If I test the image backup is there an option to stop the process if needed ?

I might format the usb & try again to see if boot files get added.

I think the xml file may control booting.
I don't know.
Here is its' content:

I studied the backup.
I verified it:

I browsed it & found Boot file among others:

I will now throw caution to the winds & create a new image & test it on restart.

If I don't post back soon, it's because I screwed up my computer.

Computer still works. :)

The xml file is for double clicking to start the image recovery.
If you do it from your computer & not a USB drive.

I made a new image since I forgot any changes I had made since the first one.

With the USB in the computer, I chose Restart.
It gave me the options of booting to Windows 8 or Macrium.
I chose Macrium.

Macrium came up & I chose to deploy the image backup.

It took 35 minutes to complete.

And here I am.
No issues.
EVERYTHING replaced & functioning nicely. :)

It was well worth the $45 I paid for it.

When I started the process the .xml file did not come into play since I was booting from the USB drive.

I'm happy this worked so well.

I hope this info helps others unsure about how to use Macrium. :)
