Windows 8 & Windows 7 Dual Boot Problem

I installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit with a Win7 dual boot option. This has worked fine for many months. Yesterday, however, the Win7 disk hardware failed. Windows 8 recovered after some time but is now running slowly and a re-start takes a long time. The failed Win7 drive shows up in File Explorer as "Local Drive G:" but all data is lost and the drive is not accessible. Additionally, Disk Management will not start so I can't check or change the boot settings on the Win8 drive.

Any ideas to unwind the dead dual boot option will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    the Win7 disk hardware failed.
Unplug the Windows 7 HDD, 7 see if the Windows 8 HDD will boot.

I've tried that and without the failed drive installed, Win8 will not boot as no boot partition is there. If I can't undo this, I will install a new drive and re-install Win8 on that drive, but I would rather not do that because it will be several days before I can re-install my applications.
    Thanks

Try this with the Windows 7 HDD removed.

Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.

I can not boot Win8 with the Win7 HDD removed. I understood that the Win8 Repair only worked from a Win8 Boot. When I boot from my Win8 Install DVD, I do not get a Repair option.
    quote from your reference:
"Startup repair cannot fix hardware failures, such as a failing hard disk or incompatible memory, nor does it protect against virus attacks. Automatic Repair is not designed to fix Windows installation problems."

Where do you buy your DVD from?

A Genuine Microsoft Windows 8 DVD will have this screen below.

The problem is, when does that screen come up? If I boot the system from the DVD, that is not the screen I get. So I started setup from the DVD from Win8, I enter my key, then after several minutes I get a message that says "restart your system to continue the install." I don't want to do that with the dead Win7 boot disk because I need to get Win8 to single boot.
