Windows 8 & Windows 7 Dual Boot Problem

I installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit with a Win7 dual boot option. This has worked fine for many months. Yesterday, however, the Win7 disk hardware failed. Windows 8 recovered after some time but is now running slowly and a re-start takes a long time. The failed Win7 drive shows up in File Explorer as "Local Drive G:" but all data is lost and the drive is not accessible. Additionally, Disk Management will not start so I can't check or change the boot settings on the Win8 drive.

Any ideas to unwind the dead dual boot option will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I've tried that and without the failed drive installed, Win8 will not boot as no boot partition is there. If I can't undo this, I will install a new drive and re-install Win8 on that drive, but I would rather not do that because it will be several days before I can re-install my applications.
Thanks

I can not boot Win8 with the Win7 HDD removed. I understood that the Win8 Repair only worked from a Win8 Boot. When I boot from my Win8 Install DVD, I do not get a Repair option.
quote from your reference:
"Startup repair cannot fix hardware failures, such as a failing hard disk or incompatible memory, nor does it protect against virus attacks. Automatic Repair is not designed to fix Windows installation problems."

Where do you buy your DVD from?

A Genuine Microsoft Windows 8 DVD will have this screen below.

The problem is, when does that screen come up? If I boot the system from the DVD, that is not the screen I get. So I started setup from the DVD from Win8, I enter my key, then after several minutes I get a message that says "restart your system to continue the install." I don't want to do that with the dead Win7 boot disk because I need to get Win8 to single boot.

Mine doesn't, sorry. Perhaps it was added after I purchased mine in November, 2012. Also, what screen is this from? i.e. What is executed to display the screen you refer to?

I did not install from a DVD. Also it was a long time ago and not relevant to solving the problem at hand regarding undoing the dual boot setup. Thank you for your help. I did find another way of doing a Windows 8 Repair and I may try that again in the future.

Theog,

As I said before, I don't remember. I purchased my Win8 Pro directly from Microsoft, downloaded it from the internet and created the install DVD from the iso file. In case this is part of the problem, I just ordered the media directly from Microsoft and will go from there. Clearly my system has some problems because I can not use the Disk Management feature. I can not create a system recovery image, etc. I believe all this is caused by the failed dual boot drive still being attached to the system.

None of this is helping solve my original question, i.e. How does one remove a dual boot setup from a Windows 8 install?
