Hi,

Are there options during the installation of win 8 to keep all user files when I am running win 7 and the win 8 cd is a full installation cd,that is it does not say it is an "upgrade version".
Isnt win8 an upgrade ? so any win 8 installation is an upgrade???

Thanks in Advance

Windows 8 is "both" an upgrade and new install. I depends on the version you bought. Every version of Windows ever released has been an upgrade.

If you bought the upgrade, and have a supported OS already installed on your PC, there will be an option to retain your data and programs.

If you bought the full version that option may "not" be available.

Regardless of the version you bought, making a backup of all your files and emails (if you use third party email clients or outlook) is the responsible thing to do when making a radical change to ones precious computer.

And possibly needing to reinstall all your programs is a reality we all must face.

But I'm sure you still have all of your respective media to reinstall your programs if necessary.

You should never gamble with your data!
