Win8 Upgrade or Win8.1 New Install

What's better, upgrade a Win8 to Win8.1 or purchase Win8.1 ?

IMHO a clean install is always preferable to an upgrade install when possible. Upgrade installs almost always have stability or reliability issues. But as Theog said, if you upgrade though the Windows store it will be free. Most people will take the free option even if it may not be the best option. I guess it all depends on what "better" means to you in that situation.

Thanks for the replies, except I too would rather a clean install. I also prefer to have the dual boot option. My plans are a clean 8.1 install and use my free upgrade to my current 8 version, which will give me a back door and a test platform.

Dual boot 8 and 8.1? How do you plan on clean installing 8.1?

Purchase a 8.1 license, use my current 8 and apply the free upgrade to 8.1, or maybe have a 8.1 partition and a 8 partition.

O K , I'm not sure I follow your logic there? If you upgrade though the store 8 will become 8.1. You won't get an option to dual boot though the Windows Store. To dual boot 8 and 8.1 you'll either have to install 8 twice (dual boot them) and then upgrade one of them to 8.1. Or buy 8.1 to install next to 8 for the dual boot. I also don't see any real advantage to dual booting 8 and 8.1?

I always enjoy having a second OS, currently 8 and 8.1. After release, I will have a 8 as a testing partition and 8.1 will be my production partition.
