The moment the Bartpe was done the wireless keyboard stopped and that's it
I jumped through hoops then recovered with Macrium which is why I don't want to lose that imaging feature or at least learn how to handle UEFI.
Imaging is critical to me. I really do appreciate the advice.
    Thank you

On another note, you have the old BIOS not UEFI correct? if so the notes I gave you would apply.
    Please reread.

Great ! no I have the new bios ver 80.02 UEFI and also what they call Secure Boot. I just reinstalled Macrium and of course it asked for the creation of rescue dvd I then recreated it OK then I ran an image of all drives OK checked the output and what I don't understand is that it put a file in a folder named Reflect in My Documents on the desktop and then in G: it wrote a file.
I will next try to run rescue and see what file it will locate to do a restore
then I will take a current image file and delete several files and a folder on the current system and see if the image created will put them back. I did a complete factory recovery, added features to bring it to 8 Pro, restore all data, do all the updates, and was done in little over an hour. I would suggest if you are not running Linux that you should create the windows rescue as it only takes a few minutes on this system. Larry

hi theog I got mine at Wal-Mart. all works well did not change the bios. when I boot I put the rescue dvd in power down.
then when I power up I hold down the F9 key until boot options appear and then arrow down to the line cddvdw then hit [
the enter key and it does boot up. Macrium Reflect 5.2 works well so far. they approval from Microsoft for the use of there software. I will try a restore in a couple of days and let you know how it works. Larry QUOTE=theog;284398]

If you have the older BIOS my notes will work for you. If in doubt about an image just delete it. Then make a new one and verify it.

If you have the newer UEFI, you must handle this feature before you can use the Macrium rescue disc.

The UEFI needs to the launch CSM and secure boot control unless you can enable legacy which makes it like the old BIOS.

    Yes, always verify an image.

Do you have the older BIOS or the newer UEFI?

The older is a simple tap from F12 to get into the rescue disc.

Hi Peter2 I have been sick too. I think part of it was the flu shot
I have the new UEFI. [
I created the rescue dvd and chose widows.
I have been in touch with Macrium during all that I have been doing. It has Microsoft's blessing and PE4 works great.
I shut the machine down and close the dvd drive right when it begins shutdown with the rescue dvd in it.Q
Then at power up I press and hold the F9 to get into bios. In the boot options I arrow down about two lines to the one containing cddvdw. then you hit enter and watch the screen as just a short time later it will show a line that says hit any key to boot from the cd or dvd. hit enter and the next thing that appears is Macrium loading and then click on image disk be sure all items in the box have check marks. I use out G:/windows 8 Pro and it puts a folder on my hard drive. and right now I have three image files that show. I have verified each of them. the only problem I had is that my external hard drive was password protected and I removed that and I think I am ready. what is CSM? right now my machine is factory settings and I installed Pro. secure boot is enabled. sound like it should restore to you???? WinPE4 will boot without resetting the UEFI/BIOS firmware.

Hi theog; the rescue cd boots just fine.
you do have to go into the bios using F9 and then select the second line down cddvdw then hit enter and it will start the boot process then a message comes up on the screen to hit any key to boot from the cd or dvd. I hit enter again and the boot process completes bringing up the Macrium program. it list however many image files you have and once you highlight one you have options to restore, verify, other, which has several choices.
I restored my HP pavilion 23 F250 touchsmart back to factory settings and also prior to that had set the defaults back in the bios. right now the system is as it came in the box except I added features and used the key to windows 8 Pro which I had purchased earlier when it first was announced.
