Reinstall, reset, of something else

Thanks for referring me. I'll show a little ignorance here. For hundreds of years I've been referring to 'installed programs' as 'apps.' Thought they were the same thing. Given that, I want to refresh? reinstall? Windows with minimal loss of installed apps (e.g., Office, Quicken). So the question is, can I use custom recovery image now to save installed programs?

You'll probably not have luck with creating a custom image now. If you do that then refresh will refresh your programs and apps to the state they are now in. This means that your issues probably will not be fixed. It might work as creating one now and refreshing to it would still clear your AppData etc but my guess is it will not fix everything. You could always try it.

Really you want to make a CustomRefresh after you have installed all your programs and before anything breaks. Obviously it is too late now but if you do a refresh and then re-install all your programs then you should make one at that point (and probably a system image) in case you run into similar problems in the future.

If it was me I'd do a refresh, install all programs/apps, run Windows update and then run recimg to make the CustomRefresh and also create a system image using File Recovery.

Hi, my dad just bought a Win8 Pro and asked me to install it in his old Laptop. I was a bit hasty, and I inserted the x32 bit cd instead of the x64 bit. The Laptop has currently 2gb Ram and installed with the activated Win8x32. I wonder if I could do a reinstall of the x64bit? will it still...
