I'm sure I am not the tech that most of you guys are but on previous OS installs I've always did a zero fill before installing the new software. I currently have a Dell Inspiron 545, win7 x64 (8g ram) and wish to install win8 pro x64. I've read that you have to leave the previous OS in place in order to install win8, is that correct? Plus, will a window.old file be created with files & programs in it?

Hello jayp,

You can use the Win 8 Pro Upgrade x64 to do either an upgrade or a clean install. Since the upgrade route is a fairly straight-forward process, I will not comment further; however, take a peek at this tutorial for a clean install. If you have any additional questions after reading, please post additionally. Good luck.
