How do I install Windows 8.1 on my Dell Latitude 10?

I downloaded Windows 8.1 from MSDN. When I tried to run the setup from Windows, it said the OEM key is not supported with Windows 8.1. I surely can use a retail key from the MSDN account but that is my office account, and I should be able to use the key that I paid for anyways.

    Is there any work around?

For example, on the desktop PC, when I edited the ISO file to bypass setup from asking for the key, I could simply activate using my original Windows 8 key after the installation was completed. I don't want to see anything weird happen to my existing recovery functionality and stuff so i was thinking about updating Windows to 8.1 instead of clean install.

    Any ideas?

    Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 Preview requires a generic key for the ISO to install correctly. The generic key is:
    NTTX3-RV7VB-T7X7F-WQYYY-9Y92F for all users.

Windows 8.1 RTM requires a specific key, I believe.

I downloaded Windows 8.1 from MSDN.
You can use one of the Windows 8.1 product keys from your account, than change the key after install.

    How to
Activate retail Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key.

Will I be able to use that 8.1 key for another installation afterwards if I do that?

Are you trying to install Windows 8.1 Preview or RTM? If Preview, that generic key can be used on multiple installations. IF RTM, you'll have to wait for a response from someone more familiar with that version.

RTM of course. No worries, I'll just use those keys given on mydigitallife forums.

    RTM of course.
Just wanted to make sure because there are different versions and you never mentioned the specific version until now. Good luck.

Managed to install Windows 8.1 as "upgrade".

First I had to extract the OEM key by this method (the last method) and save it somewhere safe.

When I ran the setup, I entered the default install keys given here.

Once the installation was completed, I could change the key to the OEM key from PC Settings and activate without any issue.
