Formatting HDD with 2 partitions to GPT

I've got a HDD currently using MBR that has 2 partitions.

    Code:
    DISK 1:

    Partition 1 - C:\ (System)
    Partition 2 - D:\ (Data)
At the moment I'm using Win 8 on the MBR HDD and I would like to convert to GPT without losing data stored on partition 2. I'll be reinstalling Win 8 on partition 1 so I can take advantage of UEFI.

    How do I do this?

    Hi, theog.

I'm unable to backup the D: partition because it's over 700GB on a 1TB drive. and I don't have a spare HDD lying around. However, I've found something interesting while looking for a way to convert from MBR to GPT. It's called GPT fdisk. It claims to be able to convert to GPT without losing data, but I want to be sure that this is a safe option before proceeding.

There is no way to say for definate that any program that alters the hard drive won't lose everything , even ones that worked for years previously with no issues can crash and fail.

My advice , if you can afford it...buy a 1 TB external USB drive enclosure (They go as low as £45-00 now) and spend some time copying the 700 MB off onto that before doing anything.
