    Driver Letters

Here is my situation: I had windows 7 installed on [C:] I then split [C:] into two renaming the other half to [F:] I then installed Windows 8 on [F:] and removed C: and gave the free space back to [F:]

Now I just have [F:] and I want to rename it to [C:] but I have been told that you cannot with a system boot partition. Is there any way that I could manipulate the drive (maybe I could split the drive, copy over windows 8 onto the other bit and delete [F:] but I don't know).

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried right clicking F:\ & renaming it to C:\ ?

That doesn't change the drive letter only the name of the drive. You cannot change the drive letter of an active partition, I was asking if you could copy it to a new partition or something like that

I wouldn't change it, even if you could. You'll just break things. The drive letter F will be referenced by a lot of installed programs in the registry etc. If you change it to C those programs will just keep looking for F and crash or not work. Windows will likely have issues too on the next boot up, if it boots up. There is an option in "Folder Options" under the View tab to "display drive letters". If you uncheck that option you won't see the drive letters.

Its more to do with the fact that there are some programs that will only install to [C:] and not [F:]

One option is to start over and do a clean install. Delete the existing partitions and create new ones. It would be a good idea to backup your files to external media before you start.

You may have to clone that partition and re-install - no way of changing installed windows (system partition) drive letters AFAIK

I can't remember ever running into that problem myself either. I've done a few dual boots over the years and never run into that issue. That's not to say it doesn't happen, I just think its very rare.
