You could create another partition on which to install win7, leaving everything else intact.

Then covert the drive to mbr. If you have more than 4 partitions, some of them will be converted to logical drives inside an extended partition. That is ok. You can install win7 to a logical drive.

i might of discovered something,... i've been using rufus to create my bootable usb drive and in a couple of the tutorials i found it said to prepare the usb drive using "GPT partition scheme for uefi computers". only after you mentioned converting the drive to MBR got me thinking maybe my drive is already MBR, so i tried one more time to create a bootable usb drive with Win7 but this time i selected "MBR partition scheme for bios and uefi computers" and changed the file system to NTFS... sure enough it boots in legacy mode and Win7 installation detects all partitions. don't want to celebrate too early, gonna make sure i have all my recovery & repair discs first then try the installation. ill get back to you soon.

Solved.. this is what i did: 1)using Rufus i prepared the usb drive with a MBR (not GPT) partition scheme for bios or UEFI computers in NTFS format.
2)then in the bios i changed the boot mode from uefi to legacy, allowing Win7 installation to detect the drive and all its partitions.
3)like SIW2 said i had to delete all partitions and format the entire drive converting it to MBR and making it accessible to Win7 installation.

Minitool partition wizard is a great tool but only allowed MBR>GPT not GPT>MBR, so i used Minitool to delete the partitions and the Win7 installation to format the drive changing it to MBR.

it all sounds simple enough but my lack of experience with UEFI computers and GPT drive types is what complicated things for me.
no matter how much reading i did, i probably wouldn't of solved this without you guys. my girlfriend and i thank you all so much, she now has a workable computer with Win7.

ps. is it just me or are they still selling notebooks that aren't fast enough to support the os.
1ghz processor with 2gb ram running Win8, seemed sluggish to me and not to mention made for a tablet not a pc.

anyway thank you all once again for your guidance, couldn't of done it without you.
