Windows Developer install on Vertex2 SSD My experiences

I hope this thread will help others who experience the same problems installing to a Vertex SSD

    Problem 1

When installing Windows Developer it was not possible to format the SSD. error 0x80300024 (it was also not possible to carry out any other formatting options)

    Answer

Wipe the SSD with the Vertex Toolbox and format it to NTFS using Windows7 (no partitions necessary). During the Windows8 install skip straight over the formatting options.

    Problem 2

After every install attempt the BIOS does not recognise the SSD (like it has vanished)

    Answer

Switch the PC completely off or remove/replace the power plug to the SSD A restart is not enough!!!

    Problem 3

The install runs nicely until the second reboot and then sticks on the circle of dots,

The install runs nicely until the second reboot and blue screens with the message Inaccessible_Boot_Device

    Solutions I tried

I installed to a HDD to check that my install medium was OK. The install completed successfully.

I tried cloning the HDD to the SSD The clone worked OK but on Windows start I got an error message 0xc0000034
I tried then to do a startup repair but the SSD could not be found by the install medium despite it showing up in the BIOS This proved to be a dead end.

I had the brain wave to make a backup of windows from the HDD and copy it to the SSD. unfortunately Windows 8 does not seem to allow you to make an image of Windows I couldn't be bothered with installing a third party app such as Macrium (which may well have worked) so another dead end.

I tried installing Windows8 over Windows7 unfortunately I got the same result as with a clean install (inaccessible_boot_device). when Windows8 refused to start I got message to roll back to Windows7 nice touch Microsoft

    The answer

Remove all but one stick of RAM and try the install again, after the install has finished install any missing devices in device Manager. Download and install updates. Switch off and reinsert your RAM.
I started off with 16 GByte but windows Developer would not run for me with more than 12 GByte

    Update

Windows 8 saw my Vertex2 SSD as a portable device. I do not know why but this is very similar to a Windows 7 problem with Vertex 3 SSD's I have now uninstalled my Intel chipset drivers and am using the Windows MSAHCI drivers. My system is now stable and no more blue screens and it is also running a lot faster
If anyone wants more info feel free to ask

What an ordeal - I am glad I picked the HDD for Win8. But despite the fact that it is a completely independent installation (switched with the BIOS boot order), the bugger has wiped out my Win7 SSD already twice. And I have no idea how that is possible.
