Night Bird, you need to create a bootable pendrive first, then extract the iso to the pendrive. How did you go about and what error are you getting?

It's size isn't greater than 4.7GB... so how did you end up with that file?

Oh, my bad. I'm not working with the dev tools, so I guess I forgot.
Well, presumably you would just create a bootable USB, extract the file contents on there, and away you go?
Night Bird, did you extra the ISO contents to the USB, or are you trying to run the ISO from the USB?
Also, we need more info than just "It gives an error". Please post the specific issue!

You will later need to set your bios to boot from USB.
And you can usually do this by pressing either F1 or F8 at boot (I forget which as I don't do it much) and then go into the Boot or Startup tab. Then find the section for Boot Order and move the USB (will usually be identifiable by the brand or make) to the top of the list, and you should be able to save and restart, and boot into USB. Once the first stage of the installation is done and the system self-restarts, you then need to change back to HDD boot first. :)

Hi there
Forget all these "USB" tools

Just do it manually and it works 100% of the time

How To make Bootable USB

Use the Command prompts shown - don't use the GUI or "Automated tools".

You can use the boot directory either from a W7 or the W8 data when you get to this stage :

BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 H:

after copying all the files set your boot menu iin the computer to boot from the USB drive - most computers give you the chance of selecting the boot device at power on.

Note also SAVE any existing data on the partition you want to install W8 on as it will WIPE it.

Cheers

Don't use that program... just extract with your ZIP software (for example: WinZip, WinRAR), and copy ALL the contents to your flash drive of burn these installation files to your DVD. I also have the same problem too. Then how can I create it? I create it using the instruction I give you above.

Hi all

You DO need to create the boot sector / boot MBR stuff in addition to copying the files otherwise it won't work.

Please re-read my post -- you won't have ANY trouble booting and installing W8 (or W7 for that matter) from a pendrive / usb drive.

Cheers

I used the same Windows 7 USB tool and the USB it created would not install. It kept erroring out.

When I created an actual DVD from the same ISO file, it worked fine.

DO NOT use the Windows 7 usb download tool to create a bootable usb or dvd. Please see my post on this thread and follow the steps to extract and create it.

hi there
Two resons

1) If the size of the ISO is > 4.7GB you'll have trouble burning a standard iso DVD -- you'll have to use a BD device or UDF which won't boot properly.

2) The free windows tool is OK IF you can get it to work -- a lot of people (including me) couldn't make it work so hence the "First Principles" approach using the Command line, extracting the boot sector and then copying the files from the iso to the pendrive / usb stick.

To extract the files from the iso in the first place you need something like Daemon tools to mount the original iso as a Virtual DVD -- although W8 I believe has a built in tool for mounting iso files as virtual drives too.

Note that when MS created the iso in the first place they used proper authoring (and expensive) DVD software which isn't in the realm of "normal users" like us.

So the fact that you can download an iso bigger than 4.7GB doesn't mean you can actually BURN one to a DVD.

Dude i hate to be the one to tell you this but when you use this tool its for USB not dvd so the actual size of the file is irrelevant ( total iso is over 4.7gb's but no individual file within the iso is over 4.7gb) , and when windows 8 is released it will not be 4,7gb's for the average user!!! ntfs file systems do not have the same limitations as a fat32 file system does

the tool is essentially the same as winrar , its designed to extract all files to your usb device ( including boot ) and there are plenty of others that will do just the same job , eg magic iso / power iso ect.....

given the chance people will make mistakes , take away user error and your job is much easier!!!!!!

if it didnt work for you i suggest you made a mistake somewhere or your machine ( or usb device) isnt capable of what you think it is

this tool has never failed to perform its required task for me ( now that ive said that it'll fail next time i use it lol )

basic principle of nearly everything is KISS , ( keep it simple stupid ) dont make things harder than they need to be

and one more thing , the op asked about booting from a pendrive , not a dvd !!!! so references to dvd's are useless in this case ( just sayin is all )

also out of curiosity what has m$ authoring got to do with anything , your just creating a bootable drive from an iso?
