Hi there
Installed the Full version of W8.1 -- as it's only at PRO level not the ENTERPRISE version Windows to Go doesn't work.

Without an Enterprise edition of W8.1 I can't really do any more testing -- I use my Windows to Go system quite regularly -- have ICELANDIC version of MS office on it amongst other things.

Ms haven't committed to a W8.1 Enterprise version so who knows where W8 (and its follow-ons ) are going in the business arena. Maybe W7 will get a Service pack upgrade. One downside though with reverting back to W7 is that it's hopeless on those occasions where TOUCH is actually quite OK.

Cheers

The good: You can create a "Windows To Go" with "Pro" version.
imagex.exe /apply install.wim 1 e:\
bcdboot e:\windows /s e:

Where e:\ is your USB stick.

The bad: This works with "Windows 8 Pro". But I have no luck with "Windows 8.1 Pro": USB stick boots - but after the "Windows flag" and the "circling dots" nothing goes further.

Only work around: Install "Windows 8 Pro To Go" and do a store upgrade to "Windows 8.1 Pro To Go"

Hi there
W8.1 PRO will have the same drawback as W8 PRO once it's been released to final.

As far as W8 PRO is concerned the problem is the Activation -- if you boot W8 PRO on different hardware (or a different HOST machine that has significantly different hardware on it) you get a request for activation.

Remember also that unless you get a TechNet version (TechNet due to be defunct soon) you can't activate PRO many times.

W8 Enterprise is a different ballgame as it's essentially a VL (Volume license) product and will rarely require re-activation -- and even assuming you are using a TechNet version of W8 Enterprise (the full ISO not the 180 day trial) which May require activation you can activate it almost an unlimited number of times.
