I was working with huge video files in windows 7 X 32 so I decided to upgrade to windows 8 X 64. After buying windows 8 I discovered you can't upgrade a 32 bit system to 64 bit so I used the 32 bit win 8. The system was still slow, I needed a 64 bit system. I though that if I bought a win 7 X 64 OS I could then use the win 8 X 64 upgrade disk. I reloaded to win 7 X 64 and tried to upgrade using the win 8 X 64 disk. It goes through the long process and seems to be working but at the finish I get an error message "we can not install win 8 on your system" I get this over and over again. All I wanted was a 64 bit system to better edit huge up to over 20 GB files, How can I get win 8 X 64 loaded without having to buy a third OS disk?

did you run the compatability checker for Win 8 before trying the upgrade to see if there are any problems that cannot be resolved.

uupgrade to 8 X 64

When I upgraded to windows 7 X 64 I had to install a new sound card. This card is good in widows 7 and 8, all versions. When upgrading from win 7 to win 8 the only problem noted was with windows defender, it had to be deleted. I had no problem loading windows 8 X 32, only the 64 bit version is causing a problem. The main board is good for 64 bit operation. I ordered the win 8 disks from Microsoft, could it be that we are only allowed to use one disk, not both versions, 32 or 64 bit ?

Did you attempt the following , Win 7 (32) -> Win 7 (64) -> Win 8 (32) -> Win 8 (64) when upgrading?

I'm now a bit confused about which order you attempted to upgrade the OS in.

I've been doing some research and I and several other people I know who are 'in the know' can't think of a valid reason for getting just that message , usually there is more info included if it errors out.

One other option of course is to stick to Win 7 64 bit.

Probably not what you want to hear , but unless there is some sort of licensing issue involved , I'm stuck....

have you tried contacting Microsoft directly to see if there is this sort of issue causing this?
