after w8.1 back to w8 - cannot create windows to go

    Hi there
I don't know what W8.1 has done to my system but after getting rid of it and re-installing W8 ENTERPRISE again I cannot create Windows to GO any more

It doesn't matter if I plug in an SSD, a standard USB stick or a standard external USB HDD - I get No suitable devices found when launching the application from the control panel.

(I can do it manually the old fashioned way but I don't know why the standard method is broken when it was working perfectly before).

    Cheers

    Hi there

Added to above post after a bit more research.

Actually it wasn't Windows 8.1 -- it's some nonsense about the drive must be "certified" -- well I can do it via imagex and a WIM image (the old fashioned way). My previous USB stick was "certified" however it seems the Samsung 840 SSD's aren't (yet these are EXCELLENT for running this type of software even via a bog standard USB2 connection).

Anyway here's how to do it for "Non Certified" USB drives

Note use the F3_imagex file for X-64 the F1_imagex is the x86 version.

    Cheers

Well, I upgraded from Win7 to Win 8 ..no problem, then went to 8.1 - and it crashed from some updates. I am on day 6 trying to install a stable system. The only stable system seems to be Win7.
Dell XPS 8500 64 bit with Samsung SSD 32G and ST 2T drive. It started by trying to use the recovery disk to get back to Win 8, it did not like my recovery stick, my backed image file, etc. I could refresh, reset...but the minute Win 8 had an update...it went back into the repair, cant repair, refresh loop. And I had to turn RAID off on the bios to even install.
I installed Win7, did my Win8 upgrade, and it finally accepted some updates. It failed on SATA chipset and it failed again on some of the 2013 updates, but I don't know which one caused it to fail. I went back to my restore dates (there were many because I was updating in blocks) and all of a sudden It would not let me choose one of my restore points, (for some reason, there were two volumes c: for a bad win8 OS and d: for good win8 OS and boot was for the good one on volume 2 D) and it says you must always restore the drive that contains windows ..... and I see system c:
I am ready to just give up. Everything is just not working...where everything was just fine before I ever installed win 8.1 preview. I think I will give up on Win 8 and just go back to Win7...which is a shame because I bought a touch monitor!!!!
If you know of a way out, please do let me know. I have spent 5 days, downloading, updating, repairing, refreshing, crashing! I'm tired, no sleep....
    Thank you.
